The total amount of water coming from the South-to-North Water Diversion Project to Beijing has reached over 100 million cubic meters since December 27 last year to ease the water shortage of the city, equaling 50 Kunming Lakes.

Currently around 1.3 million cubic meters of water that the city uses each day is from the south. It is estimated that water from the south will supply over 50 percent of the total water used in the city by May. The rest of the water coming from the south served as a supplement to underground water or is stored properly in the major water reservoirs in Beijing.

So far, water in the watercourses in the city including major rivers and lakes have also been refreshed thanks to the water coming from the south.

A unified water division platform in charge of the water from the south as well as water resources in Beijing is currently under construction.
