A joint crackdown on human trafficking was launched by the police from Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Cyprus last week.

A total of 25 suspects have been arrested for trafficking women and illegal sex trade crimes by Austrian police. 14 others were suspected of being victims of human trafficking.

According to local police, some of the suspects and victims are from China.

China's consulate in Austria is working closely with local authorities on the issue. The Chinese side has also made requests to keep the legal rights of Chinese citizens and requested to be informed on the development of the issue.

Sex trade is not strictly prohibited in Austria with only some restrictions in Australian laws concerning it.

In recent years, Austria has become the destination for human trafficking because of its geographical location and lack of relevant laws.
