Three bicycles belonging to China's World Track Cycling Team have been stolen from a hotel car park near Paris.

The bikes are said to be worth around 27-thousand euros.

Police investigating the theft say it appears the thieves knew exactly what they were looking for.

"I think the thieves are very clear about their target, because the bicycles only appeared at the car park at that night. During the championships, all bicycles are stored at the match place. Besides, these bicycles are specialized for games, they doesn't work well on the ordinary roads. So I believe the thieves want to sell the bicycle or the components. We are certain that these thieves must be veterans."

The theft came just hours after the climax to the World Championships, which saw the Chinese win a gold and bronze medal.

So far French authorities don't have any suspects.
