Wu Zhicheng, a man who had been living in Beijing without a hukou for 43 years, got his first identification card on Wednesday, Beijing News reports.

Information of Wu's hukou, or household registration, was mixed up by human error 43 years ago.

Wu could not apply for an identification card without a hukou.

The public security bureau has corrected the information for Wu, and tried to help him get an identification card since his story was reported this January.

Wu is now holding a temporary identification card.

His long-waited official ID card will be ready in the next 10 working days.
