Late pop singer offers the gift of sight with cornea donations

A young man in southwest China's Sichuan Province has received the gift of sight, after a cornea from late pop-singer late pop singer Yao Beina was successfully transplanted over the weekend.

The 23-year-old cornea recipient from Chengdu in Sichuan's Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, who has been identified as Dong expressed his gratitude to Yao and her parents.

"As a recipient, I want to stand up and give positive energy to other people. I was shocked and touched. I just want to say thank you to Yao and her parents," said Dong before his transplant operation.

Dong's mother said that she was so touched that she decided to donate both of her corneas after death, in memory of the late pop singer, whose magnanimity ,even in death has brought new hope to her son's life.

Yao Beina shot to fame after singing the theme song of "The Legend of Zhen Huan," a popular TV drama that depicts life in the imperial court. Her career took off after participating in "The Voice of China" in 2013.

She died of breast cancer on Friday, January 16 at the age of 33.

Yao earned praise among her fans after she decided to donate her corneas before her death.

The singer's other cornea was given to a 26-year-old man in the southern city of Shenzhen.
