Self-proclaimed gastro lounge The Nest opened at Rockbund on December 17, serving cocktails, organic meats and seafood in what the creators are calling an 'unpretentiously chic' and inviting environment. We found the environment more chic than it was unpretentious, but we like what they're going for.

Attending the opening, among what seemed like all of Shanghai's photographers and press, were Korean movie star and singer Rain, a French magician and many a promo model looking glam (Orlando Bloom was rumoured to be attending, however prior to the event, 'changed his agenda in China').

The drinks at The Nest have a strong vodka focus, unsurprising considering the venue was opened by luxury-French Vodka brand Grey Goose and MUSE. In fact, it was hard to miss Grey Goose's participation, with bottles of vodka and the signature bird visible around every corner. There was even a feather being projected onto a nearby building (in no way annoying for residents, we're sure).

From the drinks list, the classic Grey Goose martini was a highlight. It was crisp and ice-cold, with a silver Grey Goose spear lending the glass some extra pizzazz. The signature drink, Le Rouge, mixed by executive bartender Carson Xie, was a sweet alternative, adding goji berry liqueur, blueberry jam and grapefruit juice to the base of, you guessed it, Grey Goose vodka.

The separate Raw Bar was buzzing at the launch, with crates of fresh oysters being shucked in front of guests. Also on offer from the large open kitchen was an array of wood smoked and charcoal grilled meats from executive chef, Freddy Raoult.
