Gong Li joins cast of 'Monkey King 2' as White Bone Demon

Renowned Chinese actress and "Coming Home" star Gong Li is joining the cast of the upcoming sequel to 2014's Lunar New Year hit fantasy film, "The Monkey King."

Gong revealed that she will be playing Baigujing, or the White Bone Demon—a shape-shifting villainess that is eager to devour the flesh of the story's central character, Buddhist monk Xuanzang.

With "The Monkey King 2" being her first 3D action film, Gong says that she is "full of curiousity" about the production process and hopes she is able to do the role of the White Bone Demon justice.

With the announcement, Gong joins Hong Kong actor Aaron Kwok, who is taking up the mantle of the Monkey King for the sequel in the absence of Donnie Yen, who filled the role in the first film.
