The Ministry of Education has released a list in which 15 undergraduate majors in universities over the country will be chosen as low employment rate majors between 2012 and 2013, according to the Dahe Newspaper.

Traditional popular majors such as marketing and radio, television director, along with newly arising ones such as biological science and tourism management are included in the list.

The Ministry of Education had announced policy guidance in 2012 to upgrade major settings in which colleges and universities are required to gradually reduce the recruitment of those majors which have low employment rates for two continuous years.

Many students are dissatisfied about their majors. They said when they came to university some majors are well-received by employers, but the situation just changed when they graduated.

Li Haixiong, deputy director of the students' affairs division at the Northeastern University pointed out that the low employment rate of some majors are due to their detachment from market need.

He also advises that students should learn more about the major they choose before filing in application form for universities.
