The municipal government of Nanjing in east Chian's Jiangsu province is setting up "time banks" where volunteers can 'deposit' their time by helping the people in need and 'withdraw' it when they need help.

So far sixty people have invested in the first time bank, according to Modern Express reports.

Nanjing is also offering subsidies to people who take care of the elderly in their family, as part of its elder care plan.

Anyone who stays behind and takes care of their parents or in-laws that are under or near the poverty line, with disabilities, over the age of 70 and under family planning policies is eligible for a monthly subsidy of 300 to 400 yuan. Families caring for those over 100 can also apply for these subsidies.
