Local railway administration denied the cancellation of soft sleeper tickets on Chengdu-Shanghai bullet trains on Thursday.

The administration said the sale of soft sleeper tickets had been stoppped due to a regular overhaul of the trains.

It added that sleeper tickets will be available to passengers again in the middle of October.

News came on Wednesday morning that soft sleepers on the bullet trains from Chengdu to Shanghai have been canceled. The reason was said to be attributed to the high operating price.

Some media reported earlier that apart from Shanghai-Beijing high-speed trains, long-distance trains had canceled first-class sleepers nationwide.

But tickets mentioned above are still available to the public on the booking website 12306.cn on Thursday.

In response to early debates that whether the high-class sleepers would affect China's major airlines, experts said the superb seats can hardly rival airplanes, for the ticket prices of bullet trains are still high and they run much slower than planes.
