Hong Kong customs and marine police have foiled a smuggling case involving new iPhones headed for the Chinese mainland.

The marine police stopped a speedboat and found 138 iPhone 6 and other computer hardware.

Customers have been lining up in long queues at Apple stores in Hong Kong to get their hands on the tech-powerhouse's latest gadget.

The iPhone 6 has become the most sought-after product among gadget fans, with the product's launch on the Chinese mainland still some days away.

Apples says it has won two crucial approvals to sell on the Chinese mainland.

But it has yet to win the network access license from telecom regulators, the most important approval of all.
