Superman's debut comic sold for over 3 million US dollars

Superman's debut comic has sold for over 3 million US dollars.

A copy of Action Comics number one, which features the first appearance of Superman, sold on EBay for the record breaking price.

The 1938 edition which started the superhero industry, is regarded as the holy grail of comic books. When it was first published it cost only 10 cents to buy.

Darren Adams, the seller and owner of Pristine Comics shop, based in the US, said his copy was a "freak of nature work".

There is estimated to be only 50 to 100 copies of the comic still around, but only two have been certified with a grade of "9.0", meaning they have been particularly well preserved. Adams' copy was one of them.
