Now you know where your cat goes

A British man has designed a tracking device that allows you to know your cat's whereabouts whenever needed.

Jeremy Price says he was inspired to create Pawtrack after losing his cat Monty for 10 days. Monty returned home safe and sound, but Price decided to find a tracking device to keep tabs on his cat. "I couldn't find anything; there is nothing [suitable] on the market," he said.

"Ever since then, I've been working on Pawtrack, which is a GPS cat tracking system."

Price says Pawtrack is designed for cats and cats only. The light, WiFi-enabled collar can fit the cat's neck well, and allow its owner to track the cat's locations whenever needed. A built-in WiFi antenna can recognize the owner's home WiFi, so the collar will automatically shut down when the cat is at home, and go online when the cat gets out of the house.

Once the cat is out, the collar takes a location fix every 10 minutes, and on request for live tracking. The positions are uploaded and stored on a server automatically, meaning the owner can not only see where the cat is, but also where it has been.

Price has brought his Pawtrack design to the crowd-funding website Kickstarter.com, and is planning to launch the product by November.
