Party sacks, expels former vice mayor

A former vice mayor from Anhui Province was expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office for severe disciplinary violations, provincial authorities said on Thursday.

An investigation found Liu Ya, former vice mayor of Bengbu City, took advantage of his post to seek profits for others and accepted bribes, the Anhui provincial Party discipline inspection agency said.

Liu allegedly earned a huge profit from an illegal business and had large amount of funds he couldn't account for, according to the agency.
