US-based mobile app Uber is now offering a non-profit ride-sharing service in Beijing, two weeks after officially launching its disruptive app-based taxi service in the capital city.

Called People's Uber, it is a service that will allow potentially anyone who has the Uber app installed on their phone to hitch a ride with an Uber car that's already going in their direction.

Uber says riders can share a car by opening the app, connecting with the driver to confirm their destination, and jump in.

Riders only cover the driver's costs.

Drivers are fellow Beijingers vetted by Uber and rated by users after every trip.

oute details are logged through Uber's system, and cars are insured and licensed according to Beijing standards.

Uber officially launched its car service in Beijing last month, operating in six Chinese cities including Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.
