One woman died after apparently jumping from a Beijing Metro Station platform on Wednesday morning, while another had a lucky escape after fainting and falling onto the tracks.

The first passenger passed out and slipped down onto the Line 2 platform at Xuanwumen Station at just before 6:50am.

An approaching train managed to stop in time and the woman was able to climb up from the tracks. She was reported to be unhurt.

But at just before 7:20am, a female passenger apparently jumped from the platform at Gulou Station, also on Line 2, and died after being struck by a train, Beijing Times reported.

The Metro operator cut the power supply, and passengers were stranded in the Metro stations including Xizhimen and Fuxingmen.

Metro Line 2 resumed normal operations at 7:55am.
