Two thousand Dazhong taxis equipped with free Wi-Fi are hitting Shanghai streets starting today.
According to Shanghai Dazhong Taxi Co, the Internet speed reaches 20Mbps with download speeds up to 2.7Mbps.
Apart from providing convenience to passengers, the service will also benefit new drivers who are not familiar with certain destinations as they can refer to digital maps, the company said.
Dazhong plans to have Wi-Fi in 6,000 of its 10,000 cabs by next month. This should increase to 9,000 cabs by October, the company said.
Shanghai Haibo and Jinjiang have said a few of their taxis have Wi-Fi and they are considering extending to more vehicles.
