The Shanghai Urban Planning Bureau yesterday unveiled the route of the new Metro Line 15.

The 40-kilometer line will have 29 underground stations and serve western areas of the city. Its terminal stations will be Jinqiu Road in Baoshan District and Zizhu Hi-Tech Park in Minhang, the bureau said.

It did not say when construction of the line would start.

In related news, trials of Line 16's new section between Luoshan Road and Longyang Road stations are set to start next month.

According to the Metro operator, the new section will open later this year.

Meanwhile, commuters on a Metro Line 2 train yesterday morning had to hold part of a carriage door in place by hand to allow it to open and close properly.

A cover plate above the door came loose and affected its normal operation, the operator said.

Not wishing to be delayed, passengers resolved the issue by taking turns to hold up the plate so that others could get on and off. By the time the train reached Zhongshan Park Station a technician had been dispatched to fix the problem.

The operator later thanked all the people who helped to keep the train running.
