A popular news app in China "Taotiao" or "Today the Headline" is the latest target of the Chinese government's 2014 "Sword at the Internet" campaign against online piracy, according to the People's Daily.
Yu Cike, a senior official with the National Copyright Administration, stated that traditional media have filed complaints against "Today the Headline" about its online reproduction of content without permission. The National Copyright Administration is currently conducting a legal investigation into the complaints and will deal with the situation according to the law.
Launched in Aug. 2012, "Today the Headline" has attracted over 90 million digital subscribers, becoming the fastest-growing news application in China. With its customized news setting, the app enjoys a large popularity among Chinese digital readers.
