Beijing issued a yellow alert for its first day of high heat on Wednesday, where temperatures hit 36 degrees Celsius, 13 days ahead of the expected date for the heat to begin, the Beijing Morning Post reported today.

The municipal meteorological center issued the first yellow alert for high temperature this year and warned that the highest temperature will exceed 35 degree Celsius between Wednesday and Friday. Likewise, weather experts believe the heat wave will last until the end of May.

A heat-wave typically cooks the capital around the beginning of June, when meteorological authorities generally issues high temperature alerts.

Many people are wearing sunglasses, face masks, hats or are using umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun.
