The Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Foshan City in south China has opened up a number of positions for foreigners this year, the Beijing News reports.
Currently, four foreign employees were hired earlier this year. Furthermore, an employee from Uruguay and an employee from Britain have been working here for four months.
The contract sighed by these foreign employees spans one year and the monthly salary is around 10,000 yuan (around 1,601 USD), which is equivalent to that of a junior official in Foshan. Alongside housing assistance, the foreign employees also enjoy social security and medical insurance within Foshan.
As international investment promotion specialists for the local government, these foreign employees are mainly responsible for collecting information related to overseas investment and inviting such investment to Foshan. They are also responsible for designing and maintaining the English vision of Foshan City's investment website.
Yu Hongping, an official from the Foshan Investment Promotion Bureau, said that the issue of inviting investment is both significant and challenging for the local government. The foreign employees hold an advantage when it comes to communicating and establishing sound relationships with overseas investors. They are also considered to be more efficient in collecting investment information from foreign websites.
Likewise, unlike their Chinese colleagues, foreign employees can easily travel to other countries for the purposes of business or investment. Yu points out that foreigners are suited to such roles which require frequent travel.
Yu also revealed that the competition for such positions is very fierce with only one position for every 18 applicants. However, most foreign employees do not stay in these positions for a long period of time.
