Twenty-four-year-old Zhang Renfeng arrived in Zhengzhou, central China's Henan province, on May 20, 2014, after a 12-day skateboarding trip from Beijing according to a report from Zhengzhou's local newspaper, the Dahe Daily.
Zhang Renfeng, a skateboarding enthusiast born in northeast China's Heilongjiang province, is an interior designer in Beijing that plans to skateboard from the capital all the way to Hainan, crossing Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan and Guangdong provinces. The second phase of his plan is to go to Lhasa by way of Guangxi and Yunnan.
"The whole trip will last four months and is 5,000 to 6,000 kilometers long. If it goes well, I will apply for a Nepal visa after I arrive in Lhasa," he said.
Zhang is carrying a backpack weighing 25 kilograms that contains a tent, sleeping bag, cane, camera, water bag, medicine and other equipment in it. He said the heavy rain and sunshine are nothing compared to the wild dog bite. The biggest difficulty he's faced so far is not being able to have a proper shower, since he can only use water from water spigots or nearby rivers to bathe.
"My travel budget is limited, of course. I only have over 2000 yuan and I plan to make full use of it. I can crash at my friend's place if possible. Some kind-hearted people gave me a lift and offered me a place to stay at night. If my budget runs out, I will find a short-term job."
Zhang is recording his adventure in a diary and is asking local post offices to stamp his journal. He said, when he arrives in Lhasa, he will send postcards to the people who've helped him along the way.
At the time of report, he set off to his next stop: Hubei province.
