An old residential building in Hongkou District collapsed around 5 am on Sunday morning, killing two and injuring at least three. The injured have been sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Four men and one women were rescued by 5:55am. The rescue work is continuing.
The building is a two-story brick-wood structure located on Xingang Road. The collapse is caused by a blast of liquefied petroleum gas steel cylinder, according to an initial investigation, as Xinmin Evening News reported.
The cause of the collapse is under further investigation.
