The husband of a pregnant woman and two other family members were detained by police in east China's Jiangsu Province for badly injuring a male doctor at a hospital because they didn't want a man treating the woman, xinhuanet.com reported Wednesday, citing the county's Public Security Bureau.
The doctor was diagnosed with a skull fracture, a concussion and traumatic epilepsy after he was brutally beaten on Saturday. He was sent to a hospital in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, and is listed as stable. He has been transferred from the intensive care unit to an ordinary ward.
The doctor was attacked by the three men as he was making regular ward rounds at the department of gynecology and obstetrics in Jiangsu's Shuyang County, xinhuanet.com reported.
The 24-year-old male doctor surnamed Liu began rounds with two female colleagues around 8am. Two hours later, he was punched by three men when he walked out of his office.
