A new cruise ship, Quantum of the Seas, will make Shanghai its homeport next year.

The luxury cruise ship owned by Royal Caribbean International will dock at Wusong International Cruise Terminal in Baoshan District, one of Asia's busiest cruise ports.

The ship will sail three to eight night itineraries year round from Shanghai to Japan and South Korea beginning in late June or July next year.

Before arriving in Shanghai, Quantum will have a trial run in North America.

It will take more than 50 days for the ship to sail from New York across the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean before arriving in Shanghai.

The 168,000-ton ship can accommodate about 4,180 guests. It has 18 restaurants, provides world-class Broadway level entertainment and guests can even try skydiving.

"We are bringing the most incredible ship to China," said Dominic Paul, Royal Caribbean's vice president, international.

Ticket sales will start in June.

Royal Caribbean International currently has two ships, Mariner of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas, based in Shanghai.
