Three in four employees in China will look for a new job this year because they are dissatisfied with their current managers' capability as well as salaries and career paths, a report said yesterday.

About 54 percent of the employees said they will change their job within six months, although 47.2 percent of the total employees have already changed jobs in the past two years.

"A leading reason for job hopping is that the employees are dissatisfied with their line managers' capabilities," said Lily Bi, joint general manager of Hudson Shanghai.

The report said half of the employees rated their current managers as "average," "poor," or "very poor." About 71 percent of them said their managers had poor personnel management skills while 58.7 percent said managers communicated poorly with them and lacked transparency in dealing with them.

About 54.4 percent of employees said managers treated team members unfairly and didn't give them career development opportunities, the report showed.

Bi warned that underperforming managers were a negative impact on business as half of the employees considered quitting and 63 percent lost motivation in their work.

Nearly 98 percent of the respondents in the report worked in foreign-invested companies with at least six years' experience, said Hudson, a global recruiting firm that released the report in Shanghai.

Over a third of employees chose "higher salary" as the most important factor when looking for the next job. Nearly 40 percent of them valued a clear career path and promotion opportunities while three quarters of them said they will reject the offer if they think the manager is incapable.

The report said more than 22 percent of the employees expect a salary rise of over 10 percent this year while only 9.5 percent of the companies plan the same increase. Nearly 60 percent of the employers said they will give 8-10 percent average salary increase this year.
