Shanghai reported a human H7N9 avian flu case today, according to the local health authority.
The male patient is an 86-year-old Shanghai resident surnamed Zhou, who is receiving treatment at hospital.
The H7N9 strain was first reported in humans in February on China's mainland, and infected at least 139 people in the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong, killing more than 40 people.
