The main structure of Shanghai Tower, a future city landmark looming over the Huangpu River, is set to be capped early next month, builders said Friday.

Gu Jianping, general manager of Shanghai Tower, said the top will be put on the structure on August 3, "provided we are not halted by bad weather."

The 15 billion yuan (US$2.44 billion) tower in Lujiazui financial hub will stand at 632 meters - the tallest building in Shanghai.

Designed by US-based Gensler architects, it will go into official use in 2015.

With much of the main structure in place, construction teams are now adding glass curtain walls.

Once complete, the world's fastest elevators will travel to a sightseeing level at the top in one minute, said Gu.
