Smartphones soon will allow users to do such things as track their children through school badges, register for medical services and receive blood test results at home, companies demonstrated yesterday at the opening of Mobile Asia Expo 2013 yesterday in Shanghai.

Near field communication or NFC, cloud computing for education and health, and video streaming services across various devices were spotlighted at the show at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in the Pudong New Area.

Using NFC and 3G services, parents can track children's movements through digital school badges and school buses connected to a local 3G network, according to China Telecom.

China Unicom has begun online medical registration services at all top hospitals in Shanghai.

Users can apply for medical services and get test results through smartphones.

An online educational service are making digital content accessible by mobile devices.
