Three women have no need for heavy coats as they sit by a fountain in People's Square yesterday, as the mercury surged to 26 degrees Celsius.
Shanghai is expected to have its warmest day today so far this year with the mercury climbing to 30 degrees Celsius, forecasters said.
The warm days should last through Wednesday with the high climbing to 25 degrees Celsius or above before temperatures drop several degrees on Thursday due to an expansion of a cold front, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Today is forecast to be partly cloudy with a low of 13 degrees Celsius - 17 degrees lower than the day's high. Tomorrow should be cloudy to overcast with showers in some areas, and the low should climb to around 18 degrees Celsius while the high should drop a little bit to 28 degrees. Wednesday is forecast to have a low of 17, a high of 25 and cloudy skies.
"The beginning of the week is expected to be mostly sunny and cloudy while the clouds should increase and cause some rain on Tuesday," said Man Liping, a bureau chief service officer.
Man said residents should prepare for more rain on Thursday with the drop in temperature.
The bureau advised residents to be prepared for a large temperature difference between day and night.
Experts said it's normal for the temperature to top 20 degrees in the middle of April, but it still may fluctuate for the rest of the month.
The city's air quality has not been so ideal although it improved last night after three days of being lightly polluted, according to the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.
The air quality index, AQI, climbed over 100, reaching the lightly polluted level around 5pm yesterday, but it soon dropped to around 50 in the evening as winds got heavier.
