2013-01-18 11:15 Shanghai Daily     Web Editor: Wang YuXia comment

A man surnamed Meng was angry with a woman he'd invited to Shanghai as she refused to have sex with him simply because he was overweight. So, Meng said, he stole her iPhone, a camera and cash.

Now the man is being tried for the theft, according to prosecutors in the Pudong New Area.

Meng, 24, met the 21-year-old woman through the Internet last year and offered to pay for her stay if she agreed to come to Shanghai.

Meng, who is married, told prosecutors he borrowed a car, picked up the woman at the Pudong International Airport and took her to a local hotel when she arrived in September.

The woman was unhappy when she met Meng, reproaching him for sending her photos of another man instead of himself.

After accusing Meng of cheating her and asking him to leave the room, she went to bed to sleep, prosecutors was told.

"I was irritated because she insulted me, saying I was as fat as a pig," Meng told prosecutors.

He took an iPhone, a digital camera and nearly 5,000 yuan (US$804) in cash from the woman's bag, prosecutors said.

Meng was arrested after the woman reported the stolen items to police.
