Public service jobs rise to most in years

2012-12-24 14:17 Shanghai Daily     Web Editor: Gu Liping comment

About 57,000 candidates sat for the annual Shanghai Public Servant Exam yesterday, competing for the largest number of positions available in the past seven years.

The test-takers are hoping to score one of 4,705 local public servants to be hired in 2013, an increase of 972 positions from last year.

The positions fall into 2,016 different types of job listings with local government.

Yesterday's local exam drew 10 percent more test-takers than those that sat for the National Public Servant Exam in Shanghai last month.

City officials said the hiring bump is needed to keep up with the growth in demand for public services as Shanghai continues to grow.

Those who pass the local test still have to sit for an interview before consideration for hiring, officials said.

The general passing score and exam results come out on January 30.
