2012-12-17 10:33 Shanghai Daily     Web Editor: Wang YuXia comment

Local expats and other readers are invited to attend the 2nd "Top 10 Shanghai News Stories Selection" and pick their Top 10 Shanghai news events in 2012.

The vote is organized by Shanghai Daily and International Channel Shanghai (ICS) - the city's leading English-language news media.

Readers can vote at www.shanghaidaily.com, choosing 10 stories from a shortlist of 20, covering big issues in Shanghai from city news, business trends and government policies.

The events include the debut of a free public Wi-Fi service named "i-Shanghai," the addition of French striker Nicolas Anelka and his Chelsea teammate and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba to Shanghai Shenhua Football Club, and a longer stay to be available in the city for transit passengers from 45 countries.

Vote forms also are available at Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration booths in the Pudong New Area.

The deadline to vote is December 28 and the final results will be announced on December 31.

About 50 readers expected to match the final result will be invited to an award ceremony at a readers' party held by Shanghai Daily and ICS early next year. They will be awarded gifts and souvenirs.

Last year, nearly 200 foreign readers participated in the voting for Top 10 news stories of Shanghai in 2011.

The top three news stories last year were the launch of Shanghai Disneyland project, the panic buying of iodized salt among locals fearful of radiation following the nuclear reactor incident in Japan, and the serious air pollution in Shanghai in May and November.
