Builders lay tracks on Metro Line 16

2012-11-21 14:51 Shanghai Daily     Web Editor: Zang Kejia comment

Workers started today to lay tracks for Metro Line 16, the only urban rail without an overhead power system.

The new technology is expected to reduce the incidence of power glitches and ensure smooth operation, Metro officials said this morning.

The 59-kilometer Metro line has 13 stations with 10 on the ground. It will link Longyang Road Station in Pudong District with the seaside town of Lingang in the southern edge of the district.

A trip from the Longyang Road Station to the Shanghai Wild Animal Park takes only 30 minutes.

The first train will be delivered soon and the whole line will go into trial operation next year.
