Shanghai Municipal Archives yesterday began exhibiting more than 300 photos and documents about late Chairman Mao Zedong and other Chinese leaders of the same period. The photos and documents were compiled by 13 foreign journalists in China during the 1930s.

Most of the documents include some interview notes recorded in English and are open to the public for the first time. Centerpiece exhibits include photos and notes about Mao from US journalist Edgar Snow, who was among the first foreign media reporters to talk with the chairman. The exhibits were collected from the State Archives Administration and foreign universities including Stanford. The exhibition is open free to the public through the end of the year.
