The coastal Jinshan New Town is planning to build a 1,000-berth yacht marina and club compound near its popular City Beach travel resort, pushing along its blueprint for a new leisure industry including yacht rentals, island trips and fly fishing at sea.

The management committee of Jinshan New Town told a news conference yesterday that construction on the yacht dock and support facilities will soon kick off. No schedule was given.

The town authority said it is mulling business projects to advance the area's travel allure once the dock project is finished. The authority hopes to get licensing rights for boat trips to the nearby Hangzhou Bay Bridge, the Donghai Bridge and some uninhabited islands with well-preserved natural environments that dot the waters offshore.

Passenger shipping between Jinshan town and Shanghai's neighboring Zhejiang Province will also improve soon. New passenger ferry routes between Jinshan District and the Putuo Mountains travel resort in Zhejiang are scheduled to open to traffic later this year, authorities said.

It was also announced that the City Beach resort, a well-known attraction in the southwest suburbs, will open admission-free to tourists from June 20 to September 10. At present, an entrance ticket to the beach costs 30 yuan (US$4.71) on Monday to Thursday and 50 yuan on Fridays and weekends.

The beach resort is one of the best-developed in the Yangtze Delta region.
