(Ecns.cn)--A 22-year-old undergraduate finally arrived at his home in Chongqing Municipality, southwest China, after a 15-day travel on bicycle, the Chongqing Evening News reported.

Hu Chao, who studies in Shijiazhuang, in northern China's Hebei Province, felt very proud after finishing his 1,800 kilometer bike ride. "Going home by bike has been one of my dreams. I wanted to do something meaningful on my summer vacation," Hu told the newspaper.

Hu left Shijiazhuang on the morning of July 6 and rode between 70 and 160 kilometers a day. He sped up on the 12th day and successfully shortened his travel from 17 days to 15 days. "I never rode in the evening," he said.

During his way home, Hu suffered from unbearable loneliness and extremely hot weather. "There was nobody to talk with me, only riding," Hu told the reporter. "I thought of giving up, but my classmates' encouragement supported me, insisting on the travel."

On his way home, the temperature was as high as 46 degrees Celsius. "I ate at least one watermelon every day on the road, sometimes three to drive away the extreme heat," he told the newspaper.

Hu also posted details of his journey every day on his microblog, which attracted a lot of attention from classmates and bike riding fans. "He is our hero," said Su Yingyun, one of Hu's classmates who paid close attention to Hu's travel every day on the Internet.

The boy got postcards on his schedule at local post offices on the way. He collected 48 postcards by the time he reached Chongqing. When asked what the first thing he wanted to do after arriving home was, "I want to see the movie Transformer III," he told the reporter.
