BEIJING -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday called on the country's military educational institutions to press ahead with their reforms and strive to foster the development of high-caliber military personnel.

Hu, who is also chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks during a meeting with delegates to a national conference of military academies.

Military academies are the primary source of China's military personnel and have an important role to play in the modernization of the country's military, Hu said.

The conference, which kicked off in Beijing on Monday, featured sessions during which delegates shared their experiences in personnel training and the reformation of China's military universities and colleges.

Vice President Xi Jinping, also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, was present at the meeting.
