World leaders' interaction with the international business community at the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit is expected to lead to waves of new investment and new opportunities in many countries, a Vietnamese official stated.

It is expected to "create a boost for institutional reform, and the formation of investment and startup waves in many countries, including Vietnam," Vu Tien Loc, president of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and chairman of the 2017 APEC CEO Summit, told Xinhua in a recent exclusive interview.

During the APEC Leaders' Week, taking place from Monday to Saturday in Vietnam's central Da Nang city, the VCCI will host the Vietnam Business Summit and the APEC CEO Summit.

The APEC CEO Summit, slated to take place from Wednesday to Friday, will be a dialogue forum between leaders of the most dynamic economies in the world and more than 2,000 CEOs from leading companies in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

"The APEC CEO Summit this year will be an important occasion for enterprises and leaders of economies to discuss the future of the global economy and measures to reform as well as forge and broaden connections to promote prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region and in the world," the Vietnamese official said.

"I expect all 21 APEC member economies and international financial organizations such as the World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to join hands to bolster growth through broadened and deepened economic cooperation and stronger integration in the Asia-Pacific region," Loc said.

On trade and investment, Loc expected that APEC economies and international organizations would put forth feasible initiatives and measures to achieve the Bogor Goals of free and open trade and investment by 2020 against a background of rising protectionism.

"I hope that APEC will maintain the regional connectivity momentum under the framework of agreements such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and look forward to forming the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP)," the Vietnamese official said.

Not only bringing about trade and investment results, the APEC Year 2017 will surely help enhance political trust, friendship and mutual understanding among members both bilaterally and multilaterally with all participants looking forward to the goal of further building a peaceful, stable, progressive and prosperous Asia-Pacific community, the official said.

"In addition, I hope more international friends will get to know a dynamic Vietnam which is conducting strong reforms and actively integrating itself into the region and the world, and has great potential for development," Loc added.
