On Saturday, an annual ice fishing festival kicked off in Hwacheon, South Korea's Gangwon province. The organizers said they received over 100,000 visitors on the first day of the 23-day event set to run through January 28.
It is reported that over 160 metric tons of fish were released into the frozen river for winter ice fishing during this year's festival.
The 2024 Hwacheon Ice Festival also sees competitive ice activities. The venue features a 100-meter-long ski slope for visitors to experience sledding, ice soccer, curling, figure skating, and more.
The 1,700-square-meter exhibition hall also displays beautiful ice sculptures of iconic buildings from various countries. To boost the local economy, overnight visitors can enjoy free night fishing and rounds of golf with their invoices.
