(100 great changes) 5G apps thrive in China

In the Yellow Sea, a 25-meter high 5G base station stands on an islet more than 70 kilometers off the coast of Jiangsu Province, as the farthest 5G base station with 120-kilometer submarine cables. For the nearby sea area, this station has made wireless networking speed 10 times faster than that of the 4G period, becoming a digital beacon for offshore workers.

In Tonglu County, Zhejiang Province, 5G sensors are used in the farmlands to monitor real-time data such as nitrogen and oxygen contents in water. 5G cameras in paddies can monitor color changes in water, the size and physique of fish, and even the color changes in the fish scales. With monitoring data accurate to minutes, 5G smart agriculture has become a reality.

Over the past three years, a total of 2.22 million 5G base stations have covered cities, suburbs, islands and deserts in China. New infrastructures, represented by 5G applications, have been driving industrial transformation with digital technologies. In 22 key industries and fields such as steel, electricity and agriculture, 5G applications are thriving to greatly promote economic development.

According to "Set Sail" Action Plan for 5G Applications (2021-2023), 5G penetration rate will exceed 35% in large enterprises in vertical markets by 2023; each key industry will build more than 100 5G application models for the people's livelihood. By then, China will create a new ecology wherein information technology (IT), communication technology (CT) and operation technology (OT) are further integrated, by making 5G more deeply and widely applied in key fields.

In the future, 5G applications will strive for more achievements in China.
