"Those who do not make their way to the Great Wall are not true heroes." This famous saying from Chairman Mao's poem is often quoted to describe the Great Wall as a must-see tourist site.

Stretching across 15 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, the 2,000-year-old Great Wall is one of China's best-known world cultural heritages.

In 2017, a guideline jointly released by the General Offices of the Party Central Committee and the State Council proposed to "plan and construct a number of national cultural parks to foster symbols of Chinese culture." Two years later, a plan on the construction of three national culture parks was approved. The construction of the Great Wall National Cultural Park, as a major culture-tourism integration project, was put on a fast track.

In recent years, Beijing has been trying to set up a long-term mechanism for the protection of the Great Wall Cultural Belt. Through a series of national-level renovation, upgrading, restoration projects and cultural activities, the city strives to make the Great Wall a symbol of Chinese historical and cultural tourism.

On August 20, the 2022 Beijing Great Wall Cultural Festival opened in Gubei Water Town of Miyun District. Bonded by the Great Wall culture, a series of themed activities were held along the 400-kilometer-long "Jingji Great Wall" National Scenic Byway.

At the Gubeikou Great Wall Temple Fair, folk dance shows and cultural products market created a hustle and bustle scene. At the Great Wall International Photography Week, 100 excellent works showcased the achievements and the features of the Great Wall Cultural Belt. At the Badaling Great Wall Summit Forum, experts and scholars all over the world gathered to share experience in the construction of the Great Wall National Cultural Park.

As a major project to promote culture development and prosperity in the new era, the Great Wall National Cultural Park will continue to integrate cultural relics and resources along the route, launch innovative cultural tourism products, and build world-class cultural brands.
