Chimpanzee follows local custom of eating green onions in Shandong

In the Wild World Jinan, a chimpanzee named "Chocolate" has fallen in love with eating green onions, which is a custom of local people in China's Shandong Province.

The first feeding of green onions to the chimpanzee was intended to treat a cold, but surprisingly it turned out to be very effective and the chimpanzee enjoyed eating them.

Besides Jinan, Zoo keepers in other places across China also feed green onions or garlic to some animals, especially primates, in autumn and winter or during changes of seasons when animals are usually vulnerable to diseases like colds and enteritis.
