(ECNS) -- The Fifth Silk Road International Exposition themed "Interconnection, Contribution and Shared Benefits" opened Tuesday in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.

The expo has attracted 1,938 envoys and guests from 98 countries and regions, including Slovakia, Belgium and South Korea. Slovakia is the guest of honor at the expo.

A record high of 20,000 exhibits from more than 2,100 exhibitors are displayed in seven exhibition halls.

"Many merchants from countries along the "Belt and Road Initiative" (BRI) said they hope to exhibit their products and tap the vast market of China. For example, this juice from Ukraine came to China for the first time by China-Europe freight trains called "Chang'an," said Yin Jianghui, an exhibitor.

Products from countries along the BRI like Malaysia, Thailand and Kazakhstan are very popular in the International Pavilion. Goods like coffee, honey, and mung bean have attracted exhibitors and people looking for business cooperation.

"It is our first time to attend this expo. We hope to use it to promote our carpets and scarves. It is a great chance to display our culture and good products here. We hope to make contacts with more business partners," said Rah Imran.
