(ECNS)-- Duty-free shops in Hainan provide steep discount to customers as new regulations for duty-free shopping in the free trade port were put into effect on July 1.
An iPhone 11 Pro Max with 512GB storage is priced at 10,210 yuan ($1443.69), 2,489 yuan lower than Apple's official price.
"This phone is priced above 10,000 yuan on its official online store. But here it's tagged only about 7,000 yuan. It's much cheaper," said Chen Jizhuo, a customer.
Besides, the new policy also lifted the duty-free shopping quota for individual from 30,000 to 100,000 yuan per year.
The number of types of duty-free goods has expanded from 38 to 45, among which cellphone, tablet, alcoholic beverage and tea are new inclusions.
