James Si-Cheng Chao, founder of the New York-based Foremost Group and a philanthropist, presented the autobiography of his deceased wife Ruth Mulan Chu Chao in Beijing on Oct. 31.

In the book, the couple share their hard-earned success in the U.S. and how they passed on that spirit to their six daughters...

One of them is Elaine Chao, the current United States Secretary of Transportation.

"My parents have been telling us to challenge ourselves, keep learning and be curious. They spurred us to elevate ourselves and be independent. We sisters have never gone after boys for romantic relationships. Our mother said that well-educated girls like us have a bigger world to explore," said Angela Chao, daughter of James Si-Cheng Chao.

Chao owes much of his own success to Chinese philosophy.

"I'm very grateful to my motherland. The education I received during my childhood in China shaped my mind and helped me all the way up in America.

One of the best Chinese thoughts is 'the world is one for all.' Rather than taking advantage of others, Chinese people like to share their benefits," said James Si-Cheng Chao.
