Chinese lawmakers on Friday passed a revised version of the law concerning public security administrative penalty, which will take effect from the beginning of next year.

The revised law, adopted at the latest session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, has further streamlined the processes involved in handling public security cases, with the aim of providing stronger legal backing for law enforcement agencies to maintain social order and safeguard legitimate rights of the people.

The updated law, with 144 articles across six chapters, is scheduled to become effective on Jan 1, 2026.

On Friday, when NPC Standing Committee closed its session, a revised version of the anti-unfair competition law was also adopted. The revised version, which will come into effect on Oct 15, calls for strengthening judicial work in the sector and promoting a unified, open, competitive and orderly market system.
