Yunnan struck by 4.8 magnitude earthquake

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck Eryuan county, Dali Bai autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province, at 00:08 on Thursday, official measurements by the China Earthquake Networks Center showed. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The epicenter was identified in Niujie township in Eryuan county, with tremors felt across all nine townships in the county. As of press time, no secondary disasters had been reported at geological hazard risk sites, and no casualties were confirmed.

Following the earthquake, Eryuan county immediately activated emergency response and mobilized teams to assess the situation. Fire rescue teams, forest firefighting units, local officials and relevant departments conducted comprehensive inspections within the epicentral zone to prevent secondary disasters or further incidents. Authorities are closely monitoring seismic developments and coordinating disaster relief efforts.

Preliminary investigations indicate that, as of 7:00 am on April 24, 442 households reported damages. Critical infrastructure such as roads, water facilities and power and communication systems remained intact.
