Premier Li Qiang met with a visiting delegation of U.S. congressmen on Sunday, stressing that maintaining stable, sound, and sustainable relations between China and the United States serves the common interests of both countries as well as the expectations of the international community.

The delegation, led by Adam Smith who is Democratic leader of the House Armed Services Committee, was the first from the House of Representatives to visit Beijing since 2019.

Li noted that since the beginning of this year, the heads of state of both countries have held several phone conversations, providing strategic guidance for the next stage of bilateral ties.

China is willing to work with the U.S. on the basis of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, Li said, expressing hope that Washington will meet Beijing halfway to steer bilateral ties back on the right track.

The premier emphasized that the two countries should be partners in development, treating each other sincerely, empowering one another, and achieving mutual success. He added that China is ready to address respective concerns through dialogue conducted in a spirit of equality, respect, and reciprocity.

Li also called on the U.S. Congress to play a constructive role in promoting friendship and shared development between the two nations.
