China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels on Tuesday conducted law-enforcement patrols in waters around Taiwan island in accordance with the one-China principle, amid the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Theater Command's joint exercises around the island.

Zhu Anqing, spokesperson of the CCG's East China Sea Bureau, said on Tuesday that China Coast Guard vessel formations conducted law-enforcement patrols in waters surrounding Taiwan island, and carried out drills such as inspection and capture, interception and detention operations.

A map attached in the CCG notice showed that four CCG vessel formations were involved in the patrols around the island: the 1107 formation in waters to the north, the vessels 2302, 2305 and 2307 in waters to the east, the 2304 formation in waters to the south, and the 1303 formation in waters to the southwest, circulating the entire Taiwan island.

Taiwan is a province of the People's Republic of China. These drills are practical actions to exercise legitimate jurisdiction and control over the island in accordance with the one-China principle, Zhu said.
